Immigration statistics

19 Sep 2025

There is a lot of nastiness coming  out from Reform, Farage, Musk and other super-wealthy and some rabble-rousing people in our lovely country.

The main subject is immigration. All sorts of misinformation and unpleasant stuff gets into the newspapers and media, online, in face-book and by word of loud foul-mouths everywhere.

To enable us to present facts when in discussion with others I am giving a few facts here taken directly  from Patrick Cockburn, newspaper page 28, Saturday 13th September

Immigrants arriving legally in the UK far outnumber those in the small boats:

948,000 legally, versus 37,000 in small boats, in 2024

Those Tory politicians (eg Boris Johnson)  leading the Brexit campaign did not understand - or wilfully denied that the UK and society need an enormous supply of foreign labour.

Net migration: 200,000 to 250,000 before Brexit to 745,000 in 2022

People’s anxiety about immigrants was built up. When there was an increase in small boats, those leavers’ anxieties were worse  because the true story had not been told of the thousands of workers needed for the NHS and for Care Homes for instance:

Almost a quarter of 198,000  - that is:-

over 49,000 registered nurses and midwives joined the medical register in 2022 and two thirds of new doctors had trained abroad where it is cheaper.

You will know from your own experience how life in England has been affected since Brexit, by   Farage, Johnson and others.

And you also will work out what changes in the structures of our economy - education – health -and are needed politics.

You may; if you wish, share this letter with your friends -  for facts do not hurt.
