Resurfacing and potholes
Fixing Our Roads in the Forest of Dean
When the Liberal Democrats took control of Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) last year, we promised to deliver a shift in how our local roads are maintained: moving away from short term fixes toward long-term resurfacing and full carriageway reconstruction. While pothole repairs will always be part of day-to-day maintenance, proper patching and resurfacing provides a durable, long-term solution for residents across Newent and the wider Forest of Dean.

What We’ve Achieved So Far
Our local team has pushed to ensure that roads across the division receive priority treatment. Key resurfacing and road improvement projects recently completed include:
Bradford’s Lane, Newent
Kilcot Cross
Ross Road / Gloucester Road
Work Scheduled & Coming Soon
Several critical stretches are already in the council's pipeline for major maintenance works:
Albright Lane, Bromesberrow
Chapel Lane, Redmarley
Shaw Common, Kempley
"Fixing the road surface properly is a far better solution for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians than constantly chasing individual potholes," says County Councillor Gill Moseley. "However, there is still work to do to tackle long-standing government underfunding for local infrastructure."

Interactive County Resurfacing Map
Gloucestershire County Council provides an interactive map highlighting all roads scheduled for resurfacing during the financial year, as well as works completed in previous years.

Current Schedules & Road Closures
Because resurfacing requires heavy machinery and hot asphalt laying, temporary road closures are often required for public and worker safety.
